Welcome to 8th Grade Social Studies!

This year we will be learning about American History to Reconstruction, focusing on the changing culture, economics, geography, and government. We will also be relating the study of these topics to the state of Tennessee. A great website that we will use in class, and I encourage to be explored at home, is www.tnhistoryforkids.org. It provides a great overview of the history of Tennessee with interesting facts and trivia as well.

Another new and exciting thing in 8th Grade this year is the addition of Spanish lessons for the whole year. The students will have a lesson once a week and the class will be during Social Studies. There will not be a separate grade for Spanish, however, it will be part of the Social Studies grade.

I am excited about this year. Please stay connected with what is going on by checking this site regularly. I will be posting information including what we will be doing in class as well as what homework will be assigned weekly. It’s a great way to help support your child’s Social Studies achievement.

Thanks!

Mrs. Henson
